Some of Ellie's Angels' Stories....
|
Angels Thanks Mr. Chuck Rolen . We would like to also recognize Chuck
for all the many years of support and kindness he has shown. He works
with a hospice group, "VistaCare", located in Smyrna, Georgia. They
offer support services for the terminally ill in several counties here
in Georgia. Our dear friend, Chuck Rolen serves as Chaplain. Chuck
delivers lap-robes and blankets to people in many different
environments. He has some incredible stories to share. Chuck guides them
spiritually like no other. His mission is a very difficult one at times
but when you speak with him about his work, the passion he feels shines
like the sun! Recently Chuck and Cathy Hudson, Volunteer Coordinator
with VistaCare, received a truck load of blankets for their next
projects. Their "Mother's Day Project" for this year, a package which
included a beautiful lap-robe or afghan, wrapped and topped off with a
flower, hand delivered, big smile & loving heart. What a great
idea!!!!!!!!! Happy Mothers Day!!! Chuck has many adventures that
include delivering blankets. I know the volunteers hand craft these with
much love and Chuck gets to see that special look on someone's face when
they receive this gift. This is sometimes a planned event, but many
times he must be prepared out in the field for anything. One visit to
Cartersville, Ga., he presented a beautiful lap-robe to an elderly lady
and the gift was so muched loved, (by both ladies who shared a room)
that he had to quickly return to the car for a second lap-robe. As he
left that day you could hear joy and laughter from the room, "Mine is
Pretty", "Mine is Prettier", Mine is Blue, Mine is Red. Then there are
much harder times, a call comes from the hospital, a friend and patient
in the last stage of life. Chuck is aware that her family is far away
and there may be a chance that the only ones to be with her thru the
last breaths were the hospital staff. Prepared as he is, it was hard
when he looked around the room and realized that there were not many
personal things in the room. Something touched his heart, he hurried
back to his car, got the most beautiful afghan he could find, returned
and laid it across this beautiful lady. Her thank-you was weak, but very
sincere. It had been along time since she had received such a beautiful
gift. Just before her passing, the daughter did arrive. As she entered
the room, she paused at the doorway, took a long look, then rushed to
her mother's bedside. It was a while later, Chuck received a thank-you
from the young woman. She shared with the Chaplain, how much she
appreciated the care and last details he had given to her mother. The
very last memory of her mother would be the site of the afghan and a
good friend beside her. We know that the gifts the volunteers make are
not just for the moment, but for a life-time to share. We thank Chuck
for the many miles he travels to comfort people and spread our gifts so
far. It must be like planting seeds on a mountain, the flowers are so
beautiful, but you never know where they will pop up. We remind this
world that God's message of Love and understanding extends to all of
mankind. The message is always the same, "No person should ever be alone
and cold." |
